It was reported that the Attorney General of the nation was not with the government of India for rendering a gazette order for exempting bulls for Jallikattu. But it happened. It was reported also that an ordinance may be stronger than the gazette order. There were thoughts rendered by every pro-jallikattu activist. But it did not happen.
The National government should have found a possible and agreeable solution for the Tamil version of bull game. But there seem to be confusion and reluctance from the central government from the day one. The political leaders from north India are failing utterly and bitterly for long time. The thought mechanism of north Indian leaders on Sri Lankan Tamils issue is quite a good example to be quoted.
Because of the gazette order, the southern districts of Tamil Nadu gathered momentum for celebrating Pongal with Jallikattu. But their happiness did not lost for long time. The Supreme Court has stayed the gazette order. Now, the anger is against the PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) and AWB (Animal Welfare Board) of India. Seems, this is what the government wanted.
A PETA activist did raise a contemplative question, Why the BJP which is against the Cow slaughtering is not against Jallikattu ?
Tamils feel the event is historical and it is not wise to ban the game. Moderate Tamils are okay with regulations to be enforced. Tamil society is one of the very learned society of the nation. The present minister Mrs. Menaka Sanjay Gandhi or the former minister Mr. Jayaram Ramesh neither have the patience or a mentality to understand the cultural history of Tamils.
Government should have acted responsibly on this issue. Everyone was aware of the implications. It is time to strike a balance between executive government and Judicial system. Messing up with the system will lead to danger.
The Commoner in South Tamil Nadu is looking for Jallikkattu to take place this year. As the days are very less for Pongal, it seem to be dream which may not become reality.
