Kaththi – Corporate vs. Agriculture


Kaththi, literally means knife in Tamil. Kaththi is brain child of 100 c club Amir Khan Starrer Gajini director AR Muragadoss.

Kaththi’s protagonist is Vijay, a young mass hero of Tamil industry. Kaththi alias Kathiresan escapes from Kolkatta Prison and reaches Chennai. He plans to go to Bangkok through a fake passport. But he sees his lookalike Jeevanantham, social activist attacked by goons in Chennai.

Kaththi gets into the shoes of Jeeva. The story opens to another space – Corporate vs. Agriculture. Tamil Nadu was witnessing Government vs. commoner’s agitations in recent past. GAIL vs. farmers and Government vs. fisherman at Kudankulam are few to point out.  The movie relates lot of reality in the state including media’s un-seriousness over the real issues.

Corporate swallows agriculture is a big issue the movie try to put in limelight. The movie captures the real issue, villages in Trichy district and Sivaganga district real faced the same issue.

Kaththi makes you to remember few scenes from director’s past hit movies like Thuppakki and Ramana. Thuppakki was remade in Hindi as Holiday.

Ghajini (2008) PosterKaththi is just not a movie. Water scarcity of Chennai and Cool drinks business of the nation is put back to back in the same movie. Cool drinks industry gets smashed in the movie.


The Cola industry is brutally attacked in the movie with no hesitation. The Social message of the movie is Agriculture need to be saved in India.

The movie also put senior citizens in good light. The movie novel in approach and makes you feel good with a genuine message to the audience.

The Criminal Kaththi helps the village people to get back their land for agriculture. Kaththi though bad in nature turns out to be good after watching the real sacrifice of Jeeva for his village.

Kaththi is worth watching!
